ATSUKO CHIBA

EXPERIMENTAL/PROG/ROCK

Like a giant rock beast roaming the earth, Montreal quintet Atsuko Chiba crosses with impunity the borders among prog-, kraut-, psych-, funk-, and post-rock with a dynamic, hypnotic cohesion. Their eclectic, immersive, cosmically intense pieces are like vast, vertiginous mountain kingdoms, rife with surprising and unexpected features. Their fourth collection, The Memory Empire, came out last November.

Atsuko Chiba has shared the stage with Caspian, Tricot, 65daysofstatic, If These Trees Could Talk, The Alarmist, Arms and Sleepers and Little Tybee, among others.

2017 sees Atsuko Chiba touring throughout Canada, the United States and Europe to promote the release of their latest EP The Memory Empire.

These guys are masters of soundscapes and ambient sound.

PRESS

Getting right down to the meat and marrow. They’ll infect you. They’ll steal you away. They’ll tap right into your core and begin pumping in their whirling, ticking, peaking, grinding sounds.
— INDEPENDANT MUSIC NEWS
Atsuko Chiba is an unclassifiable, hyperactive, and overall weird band that plays experimental music that draws influences from psychedelic, post-rock, progressive rock, and probably a bunch more stuff with one or more prefixes.
— ARTIC DRONES
There is an explicit raw energy the band exudes (...) The slow drone of the rhythm section overlaid by the buzzing synthesizer tones coupled with the delayed guitars—it all culminates into an ethereal experience, making you acutely aware of your own breathing as your eyes close and your head tilts back ever so slightly.
